School

I have recaived my diploma (B.S.) in Computer Science in 2005 from the University of Maryland at College Park. The program was ranked 13th in the United States at the time.

During school I learned multiple programming languages (like C, C++, Java, Perl, Bash, etc..). I studied in detail: discrete structures, algorithms, computer organization, data structures, computer and network security, and database design. I also got experience with real life project management, and as a final project, I wrote a Java based web scraper that collected all kinds of publicly available information about all previous FIFA World Cups (like: names of teams and players; numbers and times of goals, yellow, and red cards; and not least, results and dates of games). The software run on itself, checked and corrected errors, and loaded the database through an XML interface.

Philosophy

At Maryland I got infected with the ideology of the Open Source movement, and I could not heal from it since - and I don't even want that! ;-)

What I can offer

I have lots of experience with setting up new Business Intelligence (BI) systems for startup businesses using Open Source Software. I can recommend best practices and architect the entire system from the source data to the user reports. I understan scaling, security, stability, and most importantly data quality. I am familiar with handling Metadata, which enables me to focus on good design rather than getting cought up in contimous firefighting mode. I know how to speak the language of the user, the technical guy, the business man, and the management team. My previous contracts proved that I can work remotely.

In case you would like to start a new BI system, you would like to use publicly available software (no license fees), you have some questions about BI best prcatices, or you would like to chat about handling data quality, feel free to contact me. This is my passion.

Introduction

My web coding goes back to about 2004, when I started learning HTML. Soon, I also started playing with CSS a bit, but for a long time I could only build websites that did the work they needed, but they looked very unprofessional (let's say it: crap). Later, through my job, I ended up coding the presentation layer for a Java application - so I learned to generate HTML code programmatically through JSP. At that time my sites looked better, but I still needed lots of help from colleauges to make them professional, and coding was very time consuming. Then around 2010, I met a CMS while I was WWOOF-ing in a remote Hungarian village. I feel in love, I use it since, and now I can create good looking, well working, safe, professional, dinamic, multilingual websites with SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Currently I am working on the implementation of a web store and I am gaining experiences in that area, too.

Feel free to contact me if you need a professional Joomla website within reasonable time and budget.
